CBS Corporation and Time Warner Cable are in a carriage dispute over all of the CBS owned and operated stations throughout the nation. CBS is requesting a higher fee from Time Warner Cable, and TWC refuses to pass this fee along to subscribers. The deadline was initially Wednesday of last week, with both sides encouraging subscribers to take action. CBS encouraged viewers to switch to another cable provider, such as Optimum or Verizon FiOS, while Time Warner encouraged subscribers to utilize the controversial online streaming service Aereo, which takes the over-the-air signal, and broadcasts it on a computer or mobile device. The deadline was then pushed to Thursday, and then Monday, July 29th. If CBS pulls programming from Time Warner Cable, viewers in the New York City area will lose access to WCBS-TV (CBS2) as well as WLNY-TV (10/55)
CBS encourages viewers to contact Time Warner Cable to complain about this dispute, and demand that TWC take the necessary actions to keep CBS on Time Warner Cable systems.
Time Warner Cable maintains that they want to ensure that monthly rates to increase, so they will continue their fight to keep CBS on their systems, but at a reasonable cost.
If a deal is not reached by 5pm on Monday, CBS will pull it’s programming from Time Warner Cable.
Stay tuned for breaking updates.
